<Appocomaster> so you think politics was far and away the key deciding factor?
<[FAnG]iToons> we were able to avoid any of the wars since we weren't really a threat

<[ND]ManiacMagic> At the end ult wanted (or claimed) to want to hit vikings .... inn and ct also seemed to want this, the uni didnt enjoy their fencing ... so we went with it but expected to be back stabbed.
<[ND]ManiacMagic> Ult didnt get hit by our block but their block hit us anyways, and we were stuck either hitting ult with no roids or the de block with all the roids ... and so we Attacked as hard as ever on both vikings and faceless to mount our comeback.

<Lunar_Lamp> This is not the best of news to bringing you all, but I shall do so...
<Lunar_Lamp> Earlier this month, someone managed to exploit a secruity flaw and gain access to part of the administrative interface of Planetarion.
<Lunar_Lamp> This allowed the individual to access a very minimal amount of data for the top alliances (which memebers in which alliance, and their coords, for example).
<Lunar_Lamp> We quickly detected this, and fixed the bug.
<Lunar_Lamp> There was no breach of anything like payment data or similar.
<Lunar_Lamp> Unfortunately, the person who made the breach did not conduct themselves well.
<Lunar_Lamp> Whilst I don't want to mischaracterise their actions, some would deem their actions to be blackmail.
<Lunar_Lamp> As a direct result of this, and following conversations with Jagex, Jagex have decided that they no longer which to take the risks associated with operating Planetarion.
<Lunar_Lamp> For those that don't know, Jagex own Planetarion, and also provide the hosting etc.
<Lunar_Lamp> Jagex however, are not heartless.
<Lunar_Lamp> They do want the game to continue.
<Lunar_Lamp> To this end, I have been in detailed conversations with them about working out a way to ensure that Planetarion can continue.
<Lunar_Lamp> Whilst there is still much to agree, and nothing is certain, I believe that there is a way for me to take control of the relevant parts in such a way to make Jagex happy.
<Lunar_Lamp> Fundamentally, this would mean me taking over the running of PA, from both an administrative and hosting perspective; ending Jagex's roles in any aspect of the game.
<Lunar_Lamp> Now, there aren't lots of details at this stage, and there is much work to be done between myself and Jagex, however, it seems that this is the only way in which to ensure that Planetarion will continue.
<Lunar_Lamp> Obviously, it's sad that it has been triggered by the actions of a single individual, but I believe this can be a positive thing for PA.
<Lunar_Lamp> We will have far more control of the game, and a lot fewer issues as a result of having to fit within a large corporate structure.
<Lunar_Lamp> The down side of course is that if it all goes wrong, I won't be able to afford heating this winter.
<Lunar_Lamp> Just reading a few of the first questions to come in, a few are about the person responsible.
<Lunar_Lamp> Currently, we do not have strong evidence for any individual (though the names flying around appear to be uniformly wrong, as far as we can tell).
<Lunar_Lamp> Obviously, if anyone has any information, please contact me, or another member of pateam.
<Lunar_Lamp> I will not, however, comment on individual accusations, and nor do I believe that any lynching or similar is a wise course of action.
<Lunar_Lamp> What's done is done. The perpetrator knows who they are, and they can live with their guilt.
<Lunar_Lamp> Another query that has been raised is about money.
<Lunar_Lamp> In short, yes, money coming in would (as per current thinking) be spent upon hosting the game, and associated costs.
<Lunar_Lamp> It's not likely, at least without significant changes, however, that any major profits will be made.
<Lunar_Lamp> As to existing credits, I cannot say for sure at the moment, but I would *hope* to be able to carry forward unused credits.
<Lunar_Lamp> However, please, don't hold me to that - that will have to be a financially motivated decision, and there is still much financial analysis to be done.
<Lunar_Lamp> There are some saying that they'd pay extra to help the game continue. That's fantastic ;-)
<Lunar_Lamp> Hopefully we won't need to do that, but let's see what happens.

<Appocomaster> just to clarify, Jagex won't be selling us the game
<Lunar_Lamp> I don't want to give out any precise details now, because I don't want to announce something and let them down.
<Lunar_Lamp> Some are asking about expensive "lifetime" credits - it's possible I guess, but I'd probably not like to go down that route.
<Lunar_Lamp> Initially, plans are to focus on making sure the game *can* continue, before we make changes.
<Lunar_Lamp> ...of course, changes are anticipated ;-)
<Lunar_Lamp> There are a few questions about the precise arrangements, but I'm not in a position to give precise details about them at the moment.
<Lunar_Lamp> There are still active discussions, and utill ink has dried on contracts, I don't want to promise something I can't deliver.
<Lunar_Lamp> This community has been hurt many times before, and I don't want to be the one wielding the knife.
<Lunar_Lamp> Now, whilst the tone of this announcement is quite negative, be assured that there is a lot of hope within PA Team.
<Lunar_Lamp> There is genuine, real, *hope* that we can take this game that we love into the future.
<Lunar_Lamp> It's been a long time since we've had this hope; none are more jaded than PA Team when it comes to false dawns...
<Lunar_Lamp> There will be a few more details about the security breach coming in your in-game mailboxes.
<Lunar_Lamp> As for the future: things aren't decided for cetain yet, but I am personally very hopeful!
<Lunar_Lamp> Ah, yes, someone has jsut asked about timelines.
<Lunar_Lamp> I would hope to have substantive progress in around 2 weeks, but where lawyers are involved, delays can happen easily.
<Lunar_Lamp> I will keep people up to date informally in #planetarion, and any major decision will be announced on the portal.
<Lunar_Lamp> One last note: if we can pull this off, I'm probably going to steal the round name for myself as I already know what I want to call it ;-)
<Lunar_Lamp> Some are asking if there will be another round.
<Lunar_Lamp> Just to be clear: if I can't get this sorted with Jagex, then no there will not. If I can, then YES!
<Lunar_Lamp> (ideally, I'd liked to have waited until agreements were in place, but this was a good chance to talk to the whole community)
<Lunar_Lamp> Havoc for this round will be run!
<Lunar_Lamp> And well, we've gotta make sure we give those servers a good final dose of heavy Planetarion playing!
